about
I wrote Church when the first instance of "atmospheric river" had been used by meteorologists to describe what was happening during the flooding on the west coast in 2021.
The song more about looking around and honoring instead of laying claim to the natural environment you. It also denotes the confusion of experiencing climate change in real-time. If you pray for rain, you just might get it.
lyrics
As long as you know
That something aches in my knees
It ain’t far to go
Where the mountains meet the trees
Cause I looked up and what I saw
Was a river in the sky
It’s dropping heaps of truth on us
It’s changing right before our eyes so,
We believe only what we see
We cast our hopelessness in a bottle
You think your
prayers are answered, but they fall on deaf ears
I’m praying for rain, and that’s something
As long as you know
That those birds up in the trees
Are part of the growth
Mushrooms roots and leaves
Take it out of four wheel drive
Get out and walk yourself up here
Have a look at what’s in it for you
Because I promise it’s worth it
We believe only what we see
We cast our hopelessness in a bottle
You think your
prayers are answered, but they fall on deaf ears
I’m praying for rain, and that’s something

The warmth of this album is so unique and pleasing to the ear in this cold digital era of music. Skinny's songwriting sounds both classic and modern and evolves throughout from beginning to end. Evan Smibert
Montreal psych-pop veterans sound as infectious and hypnotic as ever on their seventh LP, slinging jangly riffs and bright vocal harmonies. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 14, 2024
